Default JDM Key questions programming

Hello. I have a honda 2005 jazz jdm gd1. Is it possible to program a new key oneself to my car myself? Or does it need special equipment? New key which is ment for the car, is just key no buttons, original key only has one button and with it each press it either locks or unlocks door.

If on the chance it needs special equipment, what kind would that be? Alot of people inlcuding people at Honda where i am in Alberta, are clueless about this, so if i tell them what they need, they might then be able to figure it out. I know, it's sad.

Thanks.

Well....this is an S2000 forum, but I did go thru this recently with a 2007 Fit, so maybe it is similar.. We just needed an extra key for the car. Two steps:
1. Buy a new key. You can buy key with buttons, or just simple non-button key. Honda parts department can cut the key to your car based on your VIN. But....the key isn't functional yet because it still needs to be programmed.
2. Honda service department will program the key to your car. They need the key AND your car there.

There is probably a way to do this cheaper without having to use the Honda dealer (I think our price was around $175 USD total for key/programming), but I didn't find any very clear guidance from the Interwebs, so I just elected to go through the Honda dealer.

Good luck.

The Honda dealers aren't clueless. They can replace and code the keys.

They aren't going to give out info that could help someone steal a nice jdm car, like yours.

Great first post.

They are the ones who told me they were clueless, because it's jdm, it uses a different language and they told me since their system doesn't speak japanese they couldn't do it. Even with a vin number, t's not a standard vin its japanese, and their system doesn't recognize it.

Go to your local locksmith. They are the guys the dealerships use to cut keys anyway and they can cut and code the key for you. They'll charge you 1/4 of what the dealership will and do a faster, better job.
