Default JDM vs USDM questions

Not sure if I'm making this up or if I did in fact read this some were ... does the JDM S2000 make more hp? Or are the JDM cars just rated in a different way from the USDM cars and that is the reason for the power difference - at least on paper. If the JDM cars do make more hp - why?

The JDM cars make 7 more horsepower. The Japanese F20C has a slightly higher compression ratio (11.5:1 vs 11:1 if I remember correctly).

If you want to import a Japanese F20C to the U.S., you might try to find a steady supply of 100 octane gasoline to feed it.

Barry's right, but the compression ratio is actually 11.7:1

Barry is also right about the higher octane gas in Japan. Our gas stations just don't get that high octane stuff!
I would rather sacrifice 7 hp for ALOT cheaper gas here!

I'd read hearsay that the compression difference was just from different gasket thickness. Is this true?

Hey, ther are plenty of places that sell the 100 octane racing gas down here. It's just really expensive.

Just curious, about how much is the 100 octane gas per gallon?

I went to two Unocal stations listed by Unocal as having the 100 octane (Irwindale and Downey) but was disappointed to find none. It must be an old list. Irvine is the only one so far with verified 100 octane that I know of. I will check others on the list closer to me sometime, I think.
