I don't think you necessarily need US 100 Octane. I think a 95 equivalent may be adequate. The rest of the world uses a different measure of Octant measure which is slightly more optimistic - i.e. reads about 2-3% higher. I think the JDM Octane requirement is 97 or 98 (measured by their standards). Can anyone confirm?
Yes, most of the world posts RON octane and we post an index that is (RON+MON/2) which is lower. But I still think that gasoline in the US is not up to the standards of some other places. We have a cheaper formulation with more sulfur and lower octane than what is sold in some places.
