Jim Healey's Advice on USAToday.com's Car Chat
Washington DC: I've put 3500 miles on my new Honda S2000 and am thinking about changing the oil; however, both the owner's manual and my dealer recommend the initial oil change not occur until 7500 miles (about 60% of my mileage is highway). What's your take? Honda's oil supposedly contains an element which aids in break-in, but I just don't feel comfortable leaving any oil in for that long.
Jim Healey: Are you sure 7,500 miles is actively reocmmended, and not just recommended in the sense of, that's when you should get around to it? I wouldn't be comfortable, either. Check the S2000 chat sites and see what you can learn from others' experience. Remember that a lot of opinions are presented as facts on the internet.
I would have to agree with his advice, except that there is only ONE S2000 chat site worth visiting
