In this country, 40% of all cars sold last year were diesel. Mainly because our fuel is so high, but the other reason, is that our Company Car Tax is based on the ammount of CO2 that your car gives out. Diesel cars give out very low emmisions, as do low powered petrol cars. I don't recall seeing very many diesel cars in the states, when last I was there.
Recently, London has been contemplating placing a charge for everyone who wants to go in to the city centre, in an attempt to reduce emmisions over the city centre, and to reduce congestion. I don't see any plans like that in the States either!
I think the USA has a lot to catch up on to keep its air clean.
Oh and by the way, fuel here costs roughly $5 a gallon. ouch!

The Japanese car makes more power mainly by virtue of higher compression of 11.7:1 which necessitates the use of 100RON fuel
but man, ps vs bhp ... this is all confusing ...
maybe that's why the spoon S2000 can have 265 crank hp with just header/exhaust/intake ...
