Just bought 2002 silver/blk s2k under sticker!
first of all - the claim that Honda will only import 5000 S2000's is probably not accurate. apparently, the s2k is not doing as well in other parts of the world and a substantial number from other areas will be allocated to the US market to approach a total of 10,000 units - S2000 has been very successful in the U.S.

Torrance, Calif. 10/03/2001 -- The Honda Accord was the best-selling car in America for the 2001 model year, the Honda Civic was the best-selling small car and the Acura 3.2 TL luxury performance sedan was the best-selling luxury sedan, according to a review of the auto industry's 2001 model year results.
American Honda 2001 model year highlights include:
Accord model year sales of 412,074, surpassing the second place Toyota Camry (388,512) and third place Ford Taurus (349,742);
The Honda Civic repeated for the fourth consecutive model year as the best-selling small car in America and was the fourth best-selling car overall for the 2001 model year with sales of 323,074, topping the Ford Focus (261,542) for small car sales leadership;
The Acura 3.2 TL repeated as the best-selling luxury sedan, posting 2001 model year sales of 68,229, topping the BMW 3-series sedan (61,992); American Honda 2001 model year sales of 1,171,511 vehicles set an all-time model year record, an increase of 0.8 percent compared to last year; American Honda model year light truck sales of 286,692 surpassed last year's record by 3.6 percent; Acura Division set a new sales record of 165,983 vehicles, up 17.5 percent from last year and breaking the model year record set in 1989; The Honda Insight record sales of 4,853 increased 41.2 percent; The S2000 roadster sold a record 9,469 units, a rise of 19.2 percent.
The S2000 sold 9,469 units, which contradicts Honda's initial claims that US sales would be limited to around 5,000 per annum. Due to its popularity here in the States, we may be getting additional allocation at the expense of other markets in the world where it's not quite as successful.

thanks TommyAmrani, I noticed a bit of that as well. However I did put down a deposit, which i was told could be cancelled at any time. If i need to cancel and he gives me any problems i will have the people at platinum mastercard slap him around silly.
I also spoke to Alberto a while ago and am surprized he hasn't called me back yet. I will give him another hour or so. Alberto did seem very excited and happy that i had called however.
what it all comes down to is: Who can get me the color right combination without any added before Dec. at the lowest price.
I will see what is going on.
As it is now, it looks like i have 3 dealers trying to sell me the same exact car. Now i need to just see who can win the lowest bid and then make sure that I still get the car.

I just spoke with Alberto and he told me MSRP + $1000 + $379 dealer fee + taxes of course.
Should be $34219 plus tax
I didn't push very hard but I will try to get it for MSRP + dealer fee when I speak to him next. He seems very nice and ready to do a deal.

DEALER FEE???
WHAT THE FREAK IS THAT?
they if they sell at msrp the already make a $4000 "Dealer Fee". I can't help but sound off my BS ALARM at full blast on that one. Perhaps he isn't as nice as he seems.

"Dealer Fee" is a convenient way to add in extra markup by calling it something else. It's supposed to be for "processing and paperwork" and is a standard ploy around here in S. Florida. I've had the "fee" removed and negotiated down to near invoice on 3 new cars that I've purchased since 1989 (1 Honda and 2 Fords). When I purchased my S2000 for MSRP in Jan '00 the dealer added a $388 "fee" that I kept referring to as additional profit. That was a pretty good deal back then so I bought the car anyway.
I think that you should be able to get the car for MSRP, or maybe even better, without any "fee". One strategy that worked well for me was to shop for the car between Christmas and New Year (car sales are DEAD so you get a lot of attention), be very polite and firm with your price, and be prepared to leave if the deal doesn't go your way. Rememeber - YOU have the money and the dealer wants it.

my father and i refuse to put a deposit on a car, and we rather just wait for the First Dealer to GET IN A YELLOW s2k for MSRP and they will get our money.
i don't think the s2k will be such a bargain car that people are dying to have... i mean, it's a sports car, so you're already limiting customers and it's a two seater convertible AND MANUAL so basically honda narrowed this down to the "SPECIFIC BUYER" one that wants ONLY THAT and isn't thiking of many other cars really.
if the s2k was a car that sold out so quickly, Coral Springs Honda and many others, wouldn't have 4 just sittin' in there lot and TWO in the showroom. SURE the first month i'm sure they'll sell quickly, but after that, i don't believe getting the color you desire will be hard... I REALLY DON'T THINK IT WILL BE HARD TO GET THE COLOR YOU WANT THE WEEK IT COMES OUT W/NO DEPOSIT.
when you wanna buy, and you're serious, the DEALER NEEDS 24HRS. AND THE CAR YOU WANT IS IN THE NEXT DAY!!!! money can't buy everything, but it sure can buy an S2K!!!!
any feedback is welcomed from you Joshua, and others of course!
Screw MSRP. The dealers are making a fortune on this car.
$28,733 invoice (2001)
-646 dealer holdback
$28,087 cost to dealer
At an MSRP of $32,300 (minus $440 shipping) the dealer is making a 13% profit on the car. (I wish I was making that much on some of my investments lately) Over double the 5% they typically make on a car sale. Have you noticed how many of the salesmen are driving them? I understand the car is a "premium" but it's still a hell of a profit. With increasing numbers of used S2000s showing up in the market along with many new 2001s still on the lots, the prices are bound to come down soon. I can't believe dealers are asking over MSRP for used 2000 models. Obviously, because there are people out there willing to pay that much.
Nada and Edmunds and Kelley Blue Book still list invoice prices on the 2001.
Forgive me if I sound a little p*ssed. I found a nice used 2000 s2000 that the dealer wouldn't budge on. I'm tired of arguing with dealers over all this. I love the car and will have one someday, but it will have to be when the price is sensible and within my budget.
