Just cleared headlights...check this thread for tips...
I started this project with CrZyFuC (he would post his comments but his account is now canceled due to his name...come on cthree, it's not that bad) at 1:30PM and finished around 6:30PM so five hours, not bad but we could do it in three hours at most if we did it again. We had a few problems. The first being we didnt have a quick release ratchet. This made removing the bumper take so much longer. It took nearly two hours when it should have taken half an hour at most. The second problem was we had no experience. The first headlight took us nearly two hours while the second one took us only half an hour.
Here are some tips (warning: these are not step by step instructions, I concentrated on things that I know would be problems for anyone attempting to do this):
What you need:
Quick-release ratchet
10mm socket
7mm socket
Phillips Screwdriver (regular)
Phillips Screwdriver (small and long)
Windshield caulking
Heatgun
If you are replcing the bulbs:
Turn signals: 7440
Parking lights: 194/168
High-beams: H1
Side markers: 194/168
Rear Turn Signals: 1156
When removing the bumper:
REMEMBER TO HAVE ALL NECESSARY TOOLS! We had to make some ghetto replacements because we had no ratchet, only sockets. It took us a lot longer to remove the bumper and headlights.
When working on the headlights:
DO NOT TRY TO PRY THE HEADLIGHTS OPEN WITH A SCREWDRIVER! Prying the headlight apart even if the glue is melted will cause the plastic to rip or warp badly.
Start by heating up all the glue, but do not concentrate on one part or else it would melt. Once all of the glue is heated up, go back to a corner and melt the glue. Start ripping the headlight apart starting from the corner. Once the headlight is separated at the corner, melt the glue slowly from the parts near it. Work slowly and you will have the whole thing will come apart. Putting it together after removing the lens is just as hard or even harder. Melt all of the glue before putting the headlight back together. Once putting the headlight together, work on it section by section just as you were taking it apart. Melt the glue of one section, push it together, and hold it until it dries. Use windshield caulking to cover up all spaces you think water/moisture can enter the headlight through.
