Turbo's having sucess lately (10 sec quarters) but I worry about vaporizing the drivetrain.
Those were most impressive vids to say the least. However, did you notice that on the one, the car could barely idle? It's not the kind of set-up you would have as a daily driver.

DD with that ride would be hell. Hell of a lot of fun on the drag strip though!

I know exactly what it would be like. I used to have a bored out Mustang with a full race cam. It was an excercise in "a wing and a prayer" every time I came to a stop. Talk about a LUMPY idle. Had to keep it revved up to 1500 rpm all the time to keep it from dying and shaking the car to pieces. I imagine with an S2000 engine, that would translate to 3500 rpm.

With changing the gears, obviously it shortens them so it affects your top speed.

This question would be to anyone that has them? Is it worth affecting the Top End in order to gain faster accelleration? And me not knowing the Top Speed of the car, (I know, search....) does it lower the Top Speed dramatically?

4.57 brings the top speed down to something like 150-155mph I believe. If you need to go faster than that, you probably need to invest in more car than the S2000. And some life insurance.

You must differentiate between "geared" top speed and actual top speed. The S2000 has only enough power to propel it to about 150 mph due to aerodynamics and rolling resistance. However, the geared top speed of an AP1 car is about 165 mph but the car doesn't have enough power to get it up there unless you are driving down a long hill and have the wind at your back. So any gearing that reduces the geared top speed below 165 mph is of no consequence except to acceleration. Currently, 4.57s maximizes acceleration and eliminates the difference between geared top speed and actual top speed. Of course, some owners will sacrifec actual top speed (and more sedate highway cruising rpm) to get that extra acceleration.

Then you have the AP2, which Honda has already geared it for equalizing acceleration, geared top speed and actual top speed. Again, some owners will still elect to get gears anyway.

Top speed is only what's on paper and in your mind. How often do you need to drive 150 mph?

I don't need anything more than 130ish. I redlined my GTI's 4th Gear at a lil over 130 and then was like ok i'm going fast and never did it again lol.

4.57's sound like a good investment for my AP1. Only problem would be finding somebody good enough to install them, test them, and adjust them properly. I'm in the NYC area so anybody that knows of a good gear installer in the Tri-State Area would be helpful.

How does 4.57 gears affect 0-60 and 1/4 mile time when you compare them to the stock 4.10 gears. I know it makes the car rev faster but then Vtec also goes faster so does it significantly improve acceleration. The fastest 0-60 I've seen on an S2000 was 4.9, has anyone clocked theirs with 4.57 or 4.71 gears?

You're in luck.
Billman250 is a top notch S2000 mechanic and is on Long Island.
You can meet him and many other Metro NYC members at a tech event this Sunday:

You can get the 4.57 gears from Hardtopguy.com and you can choose to send in your diff and have it redone or you can get a complete diff and send them back yours.

Go find a post by the Under the Hood moderator "Wisconsin". In his sig, there is a link to a vid he took of a race between a 4.57 car and a stock geared car.

I just watched the video, it seems like right at the end of the video the silver stock S2K catches up ridiculously fast. That's gotta be bc the red one was on the brakes right? But yea it seems like a considerable difference once your into 2nd gear.
