Default Just got my Valentine 1 and...

It has POP. I was under the impression that it does not have POP. I have not installed it yet (I am going to hard wire it today) so I will let you know how it preforms. I am just really impressed that it has POP because I keeped hearing that the Valentine is old and it does not have POP detection. I am a happy customer.

Congrats..please post back with your impressions as well as the process to hardwire. Unless you go cordless, the hardwire is definitely needed due to the location of the power outlet. I'm looking at the V1 or the X50, many threads on this discussion, but would want to hardwire as well.

Just checked the UPS tracking site and my Valentine 1 should be delivered today. Very surprised about the POP addition...doesn't say a thing about that on the site.

I plan on doing the hard-wire route per a link on this site.

Presently have a Passport 8500 in my truck (not x-50) but will be interesting to see how they compare. The sheriff has decided my neighborhood is a nice speed trap, so I need good protection. I just wish they'd actually use the radar in areas where it's dangerous and people need to slow down. But that might cut down on their donut time

Just called Valentine 1 to find out about the POP mode. They have in fact added it, which will show when you turn it on. So the one shipped to me should have it. The o/s version is still 1.8 and they are working on an upgrade that should be available soon, if you need it for your area. Very cool....it was one reason I hesitated in buying this one, but did it anyways.

POP is a new radar they're using. Read all about it on the Valentine1 site.

Mine has now arrived and does indeed have the POP detection built in. Will hit Radio Shack on the way home to get the hard wire connector and tear the car apart tonight.

Related to hard wiring, the adaptor V1 gives is nice if you can find a switched hot lead. Then you don't even need to tap the fuse box. Does anyone know of an obvious hot lead that is switched under the dash?

Thanks,

Mark

Did the hardwire today. Easy job, took maybe half hour. bought the female spade connectors at radio shack which slip right onto the accessory lug on the fuse box. Used the V1 connector on a short piece of wire attached to the spade connector so the whole thing can be removed very easily. Also shoved some pieces of foam around the wire where it is under the windshield trim to hopefully avoid any rattles.

I no longer feel naked driving around the neighborhood and already loving the directional arrows v. my old 8500 without. My neighborhood has radar cops all over the place, constantly moving around, so I should now be able to tell where they're hiding.

Thanks to all that have posted pics and info on doing this job. It is really easy once you get into it, and having the info going in was helpful. No extra runs to the Radio Shack.

How does POP show up on the display? Is there another LED? How do you know if it is a POP assault or not when using the V1? It seems it would beep for a second, very low on the scale, unless you were the target, in which case you lose.

I have been suspicious of POP since Valentine posted the physics of how it works on his site, but I also knew that regardless of how he felt, he wouldn't show up in court if I got a ticket because of it - even though I own a V1.

Mike Valentine was adamant that you can't detect POP a year ago and was stating that competitors who had it were just selling a gimmick...

He still has info about POP errors on his site:
http://www.valentine1.com/pop/
http://www.valentine1.com/pop/info.asp

Seems he is getting gimmicky too - maybe sales are down with laser becoming more wide spread.

Now that Mike has piqued my curiosity with the physics it will be interesting to see his explanation now.
