If you would feel better about the car, do it.

I'd just change the engine oil , tranny and differential fluids and call it the day.

I bought mine used with about 38k on the clock and no service record so I did an oil change just to be sure. When I hit 45k (based on the suggestions of some folks here and the guys that work on my other Hondas) I opted to do the 30K mile service - it is a bit more extensive and expensive but now I know that my little baby is well cared for. I think its worth it.

If the difference in price is only $100 then I would just go for the major service. That way you know when it was done, and you can start your own service record for the car right from when you started your ownership.

I wouldn't trust anything a used dealership did to the car. Ask around your local forum for a reputable mechanic and have the major work done.

I agree, I'd at least change the oil, transmission and differential fluids. Make sure you do a search on here and make sure you use the proper fluids. The Honda dealers are notorious for using the wrong differential fluid and blowing up differentials. There is no OEM fluid, they use third party stuff. Some dealers don't realize this and use the Honda CRV stuff which will kill the s2000 differential.

Pick a 10w30 motor oil of your choice, unless you have shitfing issues, I'd stick with HONDA MTF for the tranny, and for the differential most people here recommend either Mobil 1 75w90 Gear Oil or LE 607 which is a true 90W. The LE stuff is what our local oil expert recommends in the group, but it has to be ordered online for the most part.

If you are somewhat mechancial you can do it all yourself. There is write-ups on this site with pictures of everything. I'd definitely do all the fluids though as you don't know how long the tranny and diff have had that fluid in it, it might be original. OR EVEN WORSE, SOMEONE COULD HAVE PUT THE WRONG STUFF IN IT. For some peace of mind, go ahead and change out all the fluids. For the fun of it you could even send in a sample of one or all of the fluids to blackstone labs (another regular name around here) and get a breakdown of how your car is running.

Take good care of her and she'll take good care of you. The car is reliable if you are careful with it, or extremely expensive if you neglect her. Be careful with your shifting unless your really experianced at it, you don't want any mis-shifts. You'll love the car! Post some pics!

Hope it helps,

- J
