If somebody were removing their aftermarket speakers to put the stock ones back in before returning it to the dealer, they could have easily forgotten to hook some of the electrical up or hooked it back up incorrectly.

Secret compartment is unrelated to your problems. Just take it back to the dealer and have them look at it.
