did NOT get the oem install kit. however, the installer (who is asking 250 for install and takes a whole day) says that he would need the parts if the car had more miles on it.
ahhh.. good to know.

For an extra $100~ i guess its really not that big a deal for the piece of mind

You need a crush collar and pinion seal everytime you assemble the pinion to check the pinion turning force/ pinion depth. It can take a few tries to get the pinion depth corrrect. Each time the shim is changed, the pinion bearing must be pressed off the gear. The pinion seal is installed over the outer pinion bearing. the seal must be removed to seat the outer bearing.

If your installer insists he needs no new parts, find another installer. Low vehicle milage has no effect on the Crush collars and seal being 1 use only.

I've setup a few diff's myself. You can't even mock up with a used crush collar. By the time you re-seat the bearings, you've crushed the collar even more, and increased the bearing preload.

I'll let Stratocaster chime in on this as well.

that doesn't mean he knows what he's doing.

installing a ring gear set can be as easy as installing an intake....but installing a ring gear set CORRECTLY is not.

tell that to Sideways.

i dont know what the crush collars etc look like but there were some honda parts in honda plastic that look like washers and rings that came in addition to the ring and pinion. Strato, could you tell me what those other parts are?

guys, im confused as hell as this is my first time dealing with this. i hope everything goes ok.
