Since I am speaking up in the installation, here is how my installer does things. He has over 20years does this, so he is an old hand. He explained the crush sleeve (DISTANCE PIECE) as a spring. It is there to keep the preload. As the parts start to ware with use, the preload will lessen. By using a crush sleeve, that presure is maintained.

He sets up the pinion/bearing w/o a crush sleeve, sets the preload and checks for pinion depth and ware pattern. Once he is happy with that, he installs the pinion with a crush sleeve, and sets preload. Now he sets the backlash to spec. He eyeballed the backlash setting, and then put on a dial indicator. I was amazed that he eyeballed it to .00825. He said it was about .008 before we checked it. So he has skills.

As far as parts goes, you can reuse all of the parts. It is just not a good idea in many cases. The crush sleeve, for one and the pinion nut for the other. But to save 100 and risk 2000 is just not a good idea. This is why we offer the part seperately and not include them with the gears. It is your choice.

All of the parts we offer as part of our install kit, center around the pinion. Both the inter and outer pinion bearings, the crush sleeve, the pinion lock nut and the pinion oil seal.

tell that to Sideways.

i dont know what the crush collars etc look like but there were some honda parts in honda plastic that look like washers and rings that came in addition to the ring and pinion. Strato, could you tell me what those other parts are?

guys, im confused as hell as this is my first time dealing with this. i hope everything goes ok.
The crush sleeve looks like a pipe that is pregant.

If the parts in the Honda bags look like washers, then they are the shims. Honda sells about 20 differant shims, all diferant thicknesses. You only need one, but you need the right one, the right thickness.

The parts we ship as follows: Two bearings with races, one crush sleeve and nut and an oil seal.

i got mine today. thanks Rick!!

what diff fluids do you guys recommend?
i've always use Mobil 1 75W90.
Mobil 1 75W90 is just fine. I use the LE 607 (straight 90W) as per Honda's specs. My installer commented that it was hard to clean off of his hands. He had not seen it before, and wanted to know what it was. Normally it is not that hard to clean off. What I got from him, is that was a really good thing.
