That's exactly right, brogers. At first, most folks (myself included) think the S2000's dual personality is a detractor. After about 6 mos, however, I realized it really is the best of both worlds. I'm sorry to see someone walk away from the car after one test drive. In July 2000, I was not allowed to test the car before buying and was underwhelmed with the power during the first few months of ownership. Gradually, I adjusted my driving to the car and now I don't really know what to do with the power most of the time; except wear a grin!

For me, I actually like the S's Jekyl and Hyde personality. But given you criteria, have you considered a Cobra converible? Infact, are they even available over there?

To each his own.
I actually did consider the BMW M3 Roadster as an option, it does have much more power than the S and is a good looking car BUT:
1) The current platform is OUTDATED, the suspension is from the OLD M3's, I mean early 90's, (if not late 80's).
2) The body type is also quite old, (nice looking but old and about to be discontinued).
3) It has a 5 speed transmission
4) It has PLASTIC rear window
5) It costs well over 10,000 USD more than the S

Enough said.

Daniel

Well, all the car magazines seemed to like the S2K well enough to put them into their #1 catagory for each test. But, with that said, "each to his own" to quote other members. Good luck with your Beamer.

Jeepers ... hope you enjoy your new ride. With you guys having to pay extra just to drive into inner London these days, I guess I don't see why you need low-end torque anyway. But then you certainly don't need a machine capable of 9000 rpm either. Save your euros ... take the tube. By the way, not a flame. In a previous life I spent a lot of time up in Hereford ... absolutely loved it. JGP

I am on my second S2000 and there will not be a third unless Honda addresses the torque issue at mid-range.
I get plenty out of my car without having to exceed 6,000 rpm's. You don't require cam alterations pulling into Home Depot or milling about town do you? When I want to feel the rush, it's there. I owned a 2.5-liter Z3 and it was decent in 3rd gear all day but when pushed, that forward movement was quite linear and smooth, oh yes...very smooth but comparing it to the incendiary power delivery of an S2000 post-VTEC is like comparing homemade mac and cheese with a bread crumb topping to the 4/$1.00 boxes I survived on when I was younger.
I don't miss my 2000, 385-hp Camaro SS one bit and trust me, that thing could pull tree stumps out of the ground. If you don't like the feel of revving the car when opportunity presents itself, why are you on #2?
As for our lost compatriot, I'll think I'll go visit the Star Search forum and tell 'em American Idol rocks!
BWAHAHAHAHA

Seriously though, enjoy your M Roadster. The last version is a monster for sure.
