Today i have been installing mynew filter, and I have to say that is very easy if you have a dremel tool.

I only had to cut half of the airbox filter as said in the instructions posted here.

I also used small amount of tape ( 4cm width ) to had a perfect adjustment with the rubber intake.

I tested the car and you notice that it revs up more easy.

After all the posts I have seen, I think K&N is the best option.

 

You taped the K&N to the rubber hose?

Correct me if I'm wrong here but I understand the interior of the airbox is designed as it is for a reason, that reason being to stop dirt & dust, rocks, sticks and any other road debris that enters the intake from reaching the filter.

Seems a good argument for not hacking pieces out of it.

Someone care to enlighten me?

 

You need a JR filter...

 

Do your self a favor S2K_Spain visit the mall or the Christmas Tree Shop.(if you have one) What you do is pick up a 3" cookie cutter. Use the search engine for my thread titled "The 3" cookie cutter mod".

Basicly you put that ring inside the neck of the filter past the ribs. It then expands the neck enough to give a nice tight seal! Cost $0.50!!! DONE! I had it in for over 3 months no problems.

 

Of course a replacement filter is better. I have no argument against this fact, but IMO K&N filter is a superior quality than stock and JR.

The K&N filter has been dynoed with clear results, and many people here have this filter.

On the taping issue, I also think that using a tape ( Tesa 200 cm long and 4 cm of width ) to gain a couple of mm in the diamenter of the filter, has no risks at all ( I can not imagine those 200 cm of tape with that tight fit flying inside the TB )

But again I am not an expert, maybe I am wrong.

Perhaps I used a tape that was not "solid" enough, but the whole mess of it got sucked into the TB and was later extracted in one big wad. My Check Engine light has come on persistently ever since and no one (dealer included) can figure out why...

I love K&N stuff, but I want a perfect fit, so I'm ordering a JR.

You will not believe it, but I read your post and tried to find that cookie thing... in Spain.

No way. Nobody uses that thing here.

Any ideas ?

 

Just one question concerning the JR filter : does it fit into the filter box or do you have to remove the box?
