K & N filters

Does anyone have any info regarding dyno results before and after installation of K & N air filter alone. Is it worth the expense to use the K & N air filter on our cars.
They filter poorly - let in a lot more dirt. If you like gauze filters, I recommended the AFE a long time ago, and it is still the best of that type of filter I have seen.
I did a lot of lab testing of filters, and was once a K&N dealer, but the AFE quality has it all over the K&N. In some cases, the cheap Platisol seals used in the K&N do not make adequate contact with the airbox, which can lead to a dangerous situation - completely unfiltered air being drawn into the engine. This ewas reported with the type 1 filter for the TL - I was also disappointed to see that K&N made no effort to notify the public that their filter made a bad seal. That ended it for me and K&N - no recommendation from RR for this one.
After I did my research on the filtering capabilities of a quality oiled paper (like the S200 uses), foam, and cotton gauze, and also after studying the flow requirements of the S2000, I decided to use the paper element most of the time, in my gutted airbox. The factional power increase did not justify the risk of increased wear in my opinion. I do use a K&N on the track, where a hunddreth of a second can make a difference. Unfortunately, I have not found an AFE that fits the stock box.
Perhaps someone with more passion around filtration can give AFE the dimensions needed, and they can make one for us? the site is www.afefilters.com. Notice the red sealing material? It is silicon rubber.

I have a AFE filter, on my comptec ice box, this is not the best fitting filter. the small end is too fat, and hits the bottom of the intake box, and wont let the filter seat against the intake tube. but I made it work. useing RTV sealer. there search engine gives the old 20-55507 # and when I received mine it had a 24-55507#. Im told this is the new #.so it may be possible to use the 24-55505, as it is 2"shorter, or 24-55506 model, as it is 1" shorter. I dont no if the shorter model will flow less air. I will be replaceing this one when it gets dirty, maybe end of summer? since I must cut it off,
and will try the shorter model ,and post the results. I hopes this helps.

I too have the Comptech box with AFE filter and its a great setup. I noticed more mid-range power and improved throttle response than anything. Nothing wrong with using a K&N in the stock box though. A stock gutted box with snorkel would be a really nice setup and probably yield similar gains to most aftermarket intakes.
