The way i see it is I'd rather re-use the K&N than buy a factory filter for $50 every 10,000-15,000 miles.

i use the same mentality. kn costs about double of the oem filter. it lasts about double before requiring to clean. so for me it's no additional cost. just means that i change the filter less get a possible hp or mpg gain.

Seeing how fast the OEM filter got totally dirty and replacement cost of the filter; I would go for the K&N as solution despite the claims that they are dirtier in filtration.

I would think that you WANT your air filter to get dirty. If you take two comparable filters and one gets dirty twice as fast as the other and I'll take the one that gets dirty twice as fast.

I don't want more abrasive particles in my combustion chamber. JMO though. YMMV.

One of the best purchases I ever made. I'm going to miss it when I go to ITB's (ok, probably not ), but I am going to contact them for a filter solution to my Jenvey's once I get them installed and see what kind of room I've got to work with.

My mileage went up 3 mpg on the highway with my K&N and an open airbox lid. You will suffer massive heat soak if you go this route, unless you take steps to eliminate this. A hondata IMG and a vented hood will alleviate any heat soak issues.

From what i have read, when useing these "hi flow" style filters you should change the oil more often, and keep the filter clean. this is the tradeoff with these filters. IMO

No opinions on Spoon or Mugen filters in the stock air box?
