Default kaaz lsd

When I purchased my S2000 I was told my rear has a Kaaz lsd in it. I recently had 4.77 gears put in and they were supposed to take pics of the diff so I could confirm, but they forgot.
So my question is for all who have a Kaaz lsd, are there any numbers stamped on the unit and also does it seem by looking at it that it has gears in it. I know it clutch plates but the tech said it looked like it had gears in it. He also said it had a long number stamped in it. What that number was im not sure. I do know the oem torsen has a number stamped in it.
I've used mobil 1 synthetic and now castrol 80w90 trying to play it safe till I find out which unit I have. The thing is I don't noticed any difference when I switch fluids.

If anyone knows if kaaz has markings on it please let me know.

Thanks in advanced

Does your LSD chatter when it's cold? If it doesn't, then it's not a KAAZ.

No it doesn't chatter at all, in any temp.

Then if it is a KAAZ, the clutches are worn out and it is no longer working. My guess is that it is not a KAAZ, but of course I can't be sure one way or the other. The KAAZ is extremely rough in it's action when the oil is cold and it chatters in a way you could not possibly miss (assuming that it is actually working). A KAAZ will also make noise when turning tightly after the oil gets a few thousand miles on it. I change my diff oil every 3,000 miles to keep it as quiet as possible (and it still clunks and chatters whenever it's cold).

I have a full posi kaaz and ruin the kaaz rear diff oil in it. I agree when it is cold or doing extremely hard turns it chatters. It also will make a hard clunk when you take off hard. It will almost sound like you just broke an axle and the first reaction is oh F&*k. How much is that going to cost me. So if it is not making any noise then either it is not kaaz or it is worn out.

Once my diff warms up the KAAZ is silent. I don't get the "clunk" during a hard takeoff (as long as the diff is up to temp). Are you sure you're not hearing something else making a noise?

Sorry if this is a bit off topic but are all these noises just something you deal with when getting a KAAZ, or do any lsd mods mean your car sounds like it is falling apart?

The KAAZ is a very fast acting and positive clutch type LSD with oversized clutches. It is not intended for street use, and requires special care and consideration. The LSD locks instantly with the slightest application of torque, and when the diff is cold and you turn while accelerating gently, the clutches repeatedly grab and release, producing a chattering. If you hammer the throttle with a cold diff the clutches can grab hard enough to break teeth off the differential gears. Under modest acceleration it's just a harmless noise. In practice, my diff rarely ever chatters or makes any noise at all, because I avoid turning and accelerating at the same time until the thing has had time to warm up. You also have to change the oil frequently, and the clutches wear out and have to be replaced (unlike the OEM Torsen, which will outlast the rest of the car if it's given reasonable care). It is NOT a mod that should be taken lightly, especially on a street car, but no, the car does not sound like it's falling apart.

Thanks for the info I had my doubts. The guy I purchased the car from over a year ago lied about a couple things with this car.
