Default Key Fob replacement

is there anything special that needs to be done to replace the key fob for our cars.

Also what is the price to get one replaced would it be cheaper to go through majestic or just a local dealership.

Thanks Jeremy

to get a key replaced cost me $114(paragon honda), so i'm pretty sure a replacement key fob would cost significantly more. I think i asked at the dealer and it was somewhere around $250 but don't quote me on that.

You say easily programmable but how do you program it?

The only way I've found is thru a dealership/

Its very easy. Most places you order from will give you instructions on how to. It is very easy to do really I don't remember the exact steps. But honestly the hardest part is putting the key in the ignition to turn the car on to program it. Just do some searching on ebay or a google search. It really should cost you no more than $50 total.

obviously don't go to the dealer, if you're not car savy like me, they try and rip u off, just googled to key fobs and they cost around 30 to 50 bucks, instructions for programming seem simple enough.

These guys used to be streetkeys.com -- but they've merged. I bought my spare keys and remotes from them a few years ago and they were great.

I believe someone posted up the exact instructions on programming the fob here. Do a search on here, it should show up. Let me see if I can find it as well.

Here is a post I copied the instructions from. It is stated for the OEM keyless entry remote. I don't know if it is the same for the OEM keyless entry with alarm. Now this post was by xviper, so I am positive this should work. If you don't know who viper is, he is the know it all of know it all with the S. Enjoy.

xviper -
Our receiver can store up to 3 remotes. If you try to put in a 4th, the first one that was ever programmed will be "kicked out".
From the Helm manual, p. 22-134:
Does the LED on the transmitter come on when you press a button? If not, the remote is faulty.
Press the lock or unlock button 5-6 times to reset the transmitter.
If the locks still don't work, did you get the remote wet? If so, replace - it's toast.
Battery OK?

You probably know this but just in case:
To program:
Close doors, hood, trunk.
1. Ignition ON.
2. Within 1-4 secs. push lock or unlock while aiming the remote at the receiver.
3. Within 1-4 secs, turn OFF ignition.
4. Within 1-4 secs, turn ON ign.
5. Within 1-4 secs, repeat (2.)
6. Within 1-4 secs, turn OFF ign.
7. Within 4 secs, turn ON ign.
8. Within 1-4 secs, repeat (2.)
9. Within 1-4 secs, turn OFF ign.
10. Within 4 secs, turn ON ign.
11. Within 1-4 secs, repeat (2.)
12. Confirm that you hear the door lock actuators. Within 1-4 secs, push the transmitter lock or unlock button again. The keyless receiver is now in the program mode. You must push the transmitter lock or unlock button of the first transmitter again to program that remote.
13. Within 10 secs, aim the transmitters (up to three) whose codes you want to store at the receiver, and press the transmitter lock or unlock buttons. Confirm that you can hear the sound of the door lock actuators after each transmitter code is stored.
14. Turn ign. OFF, and pull out the key.
15. Confirm the operation of the new codes.

16. I need a ciguarette!

Are you sure you're thinking of the fob and not the key?
