Default Keyfob Range

I am sure this has been talked about before but I haven't specifically searched for it.
I'm mostly curious about the responses from a nice wide cross-section of owners. Not actually looking for "how to fix my problem" per se.

I was out running around with my brother a few days ago.
He has a Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V and I noticed when we were coming back to the car that he unlocked it from several hundred feet away.
It's made me realize that my stock keyfob range on my old AP1 AND my current AP2 are absolutely terrible.

Usually I have to be within about 30-50 feet for it to react unless I do the under-the-chin trick. Fresh batteries dont seen to make a difference either. Maybe slightly.

What are your experiences? Better than mine? Worse? Same?
Tricks to make it better?
Am I just unlucky?

You can hold it up to your chin to increase range. Use this trick practically every time.

Granted, people will probably look at you like wtf.

Bonus points if you open your mouth while doing it

30-50 ft? Consider yourself lucky. I usually need to be inside 20'. Sometimes it doesn't work until I'm right by the car.

Occasionally, I'll poke the end of my keyfob with my index finger to increase the range. It's not quite as effective as the under-the-chin trick, but it does increase the range significantly.

My '06 with the same batteries in the remote since I got the car 2 years ago will easily unlock from 100'+ range (without resorting to body antena tricks). I haven't specifically tested the range limits, but it seems to be similar to my other cars.

From in front of car, 20-30 feet...

From rear of car, sometimes not until I am 2-3 feet away...And even then, sometimes I have to raise my arm in the air to get the transmitter to be "seen" by the receiver...

Receiver must be near the front of the car based on the behavior I am experiencing...

Just like everyone else, about 20 feet. It's sad because I have a Equinox and the range on that is around 300 feet or so.
