Default Keyless Entry S2K

no one could answer this question for me so i might as well post a topic about it.

i never understood why the new civic and accord have the inkey keyless entry system and why a $30+k sports car still has the stupid fob. that's one of the things i do miss with my old car. it was less junk in my pockets. is it possible to go to a honda dealer and get the inkey and have them program the chip and keyless to open and start my S?

From my understanding, no.

Well, the flip side is, you aren't stuck with the OEM alarm

i was wondering the same thing. oh well it's a shame they didn't offer the fob built into the key like the accords.

I could be wrong about the key, since I have not tried it myself. Theoretically it makes sense that an Accord key would work on an S2000 (yes ... I'm contradicting myself here) -- since both keys have that "laser-look" to them, and I would imagine that Honda would just use one type of immobilizer for all cars in a given production year for cost saving purposes.

But then, I've never heard of anyone doing it. Also, one of the biggest problem here is that Honda dealers will refuse to program the immobilizer for you due to liability/legal issues, given that the Accord/Civic key is not designed for the S2000.

What do you mean by piggyback alarm system?

That's the Honda factory alarm then

Well, you could actually wire an aftermarket alarm to use the trunk release solenoid.

But some people actually want MORE junk in their pockets. This guy wants his key mounted with a screwdriver handle:

My 2006 Odyssey has a separate key fob too... It's a Touring model that stickers for >$39k, so I don't think it has anything to do with the price of the vehicle.

If you have a newer S with the laser cut key, then you can get an Accord key, pull out the immobilizer and put in the immobilizer from your S, and have the new blank cut to match your S.

There are a few articles on this floating around the internet. A friend with an EP3 has done this.

As to why they are not applying this to more cars, I don't know.
