I don't think "smooth" was what Honda was after. There catch phrase Honda uses is "direct link" shifting. Short throw, direst link, tight pattern; they wanted you to feel the transmission, not be isolated from it. I love it.

I have exactly the same problem that aran explained. My Honda dealer changed the transmission oil (free of charge, which was nice :-)), and that made the problem considerably better. I learned that it is important to change whatever oil earlier than you would nomally do with other cars.

My 2001 shifting is even better than the 2000 I just traded. No I didn't have the grind problem. No complaints here.

Dunno if this will help but I put full synthetic tranny fluid in my Porsche 928 GT and it helped alot with smoothness, may be worth a try. None of you have any idea about notchy shifting in comparison to this tranny....The Honda feels like butter!

Yes, I'm considering an s2000 which is why I'm here.
