LA to Chicago
As much of the Hoover Dam as we saw...

That is not Hoover Dam - that is the Pat Tillman - someone else bridge. As of this past fall the road over the dam is closed to traffic. The dam was to your left and below you a couple of hundred feet. This is why you were not able to see it.
The Hoover Dam was completed 2 years ahead of the due date and was under budget. The bridge by comparison was well over budged and took nearly 3 times as long to build as the dam.
Welcome to the family - a great adventure to have - now it is time for roads with some bends in them.

Is there even a way to see it now? We drove around a bit and couldn't figure it out.
Wished my road trip was as interesting. I had a dreadful 10 hour drive from Tennessee to Virginia on pretty much a 2 lane freeway with absolutely nothing interesting to see, and ran in to a big storm as I came back home too.
Yeah, good trip! My car looks almost exactly like yours, and I bought it in Flagstaff so yeah, those roads are real familiar, lol. And how was the road trip with your friend? I might do something similar going to Socal, but not sure yet.
