Default Laser Radar - how effective are the detectors?

Want to know if anyone has had a successful "mitigation" of laser radar.

I am in Southern California and all the po-lice seem to use lasers, so is it worth it to spring $450 bucks for a Valentine-1?

Or will a $250 Escort 8500 be just as good against Lasers?

I've been told that Radar detectors only function as "ticket notifiers" vs laser ..

Yup, unfortunately radar detectors can pretty much only tell you that the cop already knows your speed if he is shooting laser.

Not entirely true. In busy traffic, I've picked up laser aimed at other cars more than 50% of the time before I came into range. I know it was aimed at other cars because there's a stretch of road here with express and local lanes side by side, the cop is usually working the express lanes, while I'm in the local lanes, and frequently there's no line of sight between his gun and my car when the alarm goes off. The reflections and scatter are enough for the Valentine. Contrary to the ads, I've read that at a half-mile or more, the detectable beam really does cover more than one lane.

If you're alone on the road, you're pretty much toast. There was one time at night where I picked up a laser signal before I came over a hill where he was waiting in time to slow down, but it was a mildly foggy night, and no lights around, so maybe that helped scatter the light. I doubt that will ever happen again.

I like the V1 due to the directional arrows. Once you get used to them, you'll never go back.

Laser detectors will generally only let you know that you've been zapped but sometimes they can pick-up stray laser aimed at nearby cars. Laser use is pretty much impossible in rain and in fog would be questionable. Of course any time that you are alone on the road or the front runner you are susceptable to being nailed by radar or laser.

So many threads on the comparison of the two... ANY dectector is better than NONE.... but "bells and whistles" is personal preference..

Search and you'll find everything you need on this topic.

I've got the Escort X50 8500 $300 and lost save in insurance and traffic school

its saved me atleast 6x

with lazer if they are hitting all the cars around you it will go off...

the second it goes off off the gas and slow down with in 8mph of post speed

RSM is so stipid... they care more about writing speeding ticket than actual
crimes

I'm gonna do the best of both worlds.

Radar detector (escort) and the laser jammer. (ZR3 i believe it is?)

in general, even the best laser detectors tell you when it's already too late. considering Gen III Lidar/Laser can pick you off from 4000 feet away, you're F'ed. Hence the laser jammer. (yes it's legal unless the state has a specific law banning them)

Most jammers have a warning alarm, so a extra detector is not needed. If you're getting a radar detector that also detects laser, so be it. Here in Hawaii, no radar except on military bases, only laset. We have a K40 on one car, and a Lidatek on the second. On Hawaii's lasers, they both work well. The K40 is old and might not be effective against newer guns.

Yeah, but you live on an island- you can only get up to like 45mph before you reach the other side and then you have to stop again.

(Just kidding man, my ex-gf is from Honolulu and I used to tease her about the island thing all the time.. then I realized I live in ohio)
