Laser Radar - how effective are the detectors?

Yeah, but you live on an island- you can only get up to like 45mph before you reach the other side and then you have to stop again.
I've had my Escort 8500 X50 for about 10,000 miles and I've only gotten a "Laser" signal only once, stopped at a traffic light. I'm not sure if it was a legitamate signal or not. In my experience all cops (in Florida atleast) use K or KA band radar. The detector is unbelievable, the best money I've ever spent.
I just sprang for the Valentine 1, everyone rates it the best.. also of course, its the most expensive.
The Escort 8500 comes in 2nd, but its debateable whether its a "close second", or not ...

So a question to those here who have either the Valentine 1 or the Escort 8500...
Have any of you been either pulled over and/or ticketed because the devices didn't warn you at all or didn't warn you early enough?

I have a valentine one and an escort ZR3 laser shifter. The shifter has saved my ass many times. I went by a cop once who tried to gun me and just looked down at his gun confused like it was broken. Definitely a good investment if your area has alot of laser action.
