Here is how I did mine. I mounted the plates directly onto the bumper -- not on that stupid plastic thing. Don't really have the choice of not putting front plates here. Cops could let go of many things if they want to, but no front plate is a big no no here:

Sorry for the bad quality pic ... haven't had time to get better pics of my car.

I was at a S2k gathering recently, and one person mounted their plate to the underside of the front scoop. It was on a spring loaded hinge and went almost flat at speed. It's a different approach. If I get caught, I figure I'll use Rick's. <knock wood>

Regulations vary by state.

I adopted a different approach for my front plate. I dont want to risk getting front plate tickets however I also did not want to look at the HUGE contrast of a white plate on a black car. So I bought a plate cover and used spray tint to darken it drastically. The end result has been no front plate tickets and good looking front end still. When the sun is on it during the day its more visible, and at night its gets a bit harder to see. I have been happy with the results.

I just recieved a fix it ticket last week for no front license plate. Initially the motorcycle cop pulled me over for tinted windows then he walk around my car to see what else he could find and got me for no front plate too. I was on my way to work in the AM and I guess the cop had nothing better to do then to give me a fix it ticket... hardly worth it I say. I have the stock front mount which I will put back on but I'm contemplating on whether it's worth the hassle taking it back off and having to deal with these type of situations again. Here in CA it's just an easy excuse for cops to pull you over...

PS. I'm going to try the spray tint over the plastic covering. Thanks for the idea
