Default Laughing gas laws??

Does anybody know the legality of using nitrous on the streets in NYC? Is the nitrous system even allowed to be in the car? Any help will be appreciated. Please no educated guesses.

Is this just hear say? Speculations? My friend got pulled over for his exhaust yesterday and he has a nitrous arming switch which controls his fog lights. The cop asked if it was for nitrous. The cop said no matter what if we know you have nitrous oxide in the car you'll get your car impounded and you'll never see the car again.

In Jersey you need a permit. Which is easy to get ya just have to send away for it. Ya can't use it on the street but you can have it in your car. To fill a bottle in New Jersey you also need the permit.

When I was in college some frat boys stole a tank of NitrIC oxide - a red/brown heavier than-air TOXIC gas. Ads were alll over the radio telling nobody to breathe it!
Back to chem class without being stoned eh?

I believe the Nitrous sold for cars has some sulfide or sulfur in it to make it taste real bad. Hence ya can be sucking down the stuff like ya can with whip cream or medical grade Nitrous oxide.

Italian Bucwheat is correct as far as I am aware.

Where I am I believe that law is that you cannot have the bottle connected to the system (ie legal to have a working set-up as long as it is fully disarmed).

One thing you may find interesting, a car magazine here has an article on an S2000 that has the nitrous bottle inside the engine bay (where the air filter box usually sits).
