Default Launching

Just curious about what everyone's opinion is on launching the S2K. What I personally do is bring it up to around 6 grand then quickly release (without dumping). But I have heard others say they feather the clutch, or even launch at a lower RPM... anyone got any ideas?

if you're releasing very very quickly that should be fine, but dumping is usually the general answer. feathering is retarded because that will just burn clutch and our clutches arent the strong point in our drivetrain. the point of revving up so high is to put the engine in the powerband giving it enough power to break the rear wheels without putting major strain on the transmission and differential. dumping does shock both, but only momentarily as long as the wheels break free. so, break the wheels and feather the gas, and then if you need more answers search please.

I know I could have searched, and the way I launch has worked for me so far, I was just curious to hear other people's opinions on the topic, thats all.

No need to search. The best way to launch is the correct way and I believe "terahertz" has described it very well.

Rev up high enough to be in the powerband (around 6k or more)

Dump the clutch and break the tires loose. If you don't you put tremendous strain on the drivetrain and could break the differential.

Good luck

your launch may be working but that doesn't mean you're not slowly destroying the clutch as previously described by terahertz. i'm sure there are a lot of ways to launch that could have 'worked for you' but are still bad for the car.

dumping is like... release the foot of the clutch pedal?!

So from what you guys say is

rev up to 6k... keep clutch and 1st gear
dump the clutch (release the foot of the clutch pedal?!)

and enjoy the safe launch ?!

Ravens: Yes, that seems to be a very step-by-step way to put it. But, keep in mind the logic behind those figures; 6k is just an example. The surface you're on may require more -- the goal is to break the tires free as soon as possible.

But shouldn't a launch be without spinning/burning tires? Since that takes time?

Sorry for being a newbie in this....
