Ive heard about many people that when they race they drop the clutch at about 6000-8000 or a very high RPM level. I am assuming the only reason they do this is to keep the easily boggable engine from bogging down but I can drop the clutch from 3000 and I still do not floor it right away to keep from peelin out too much. Is there some unseen advantage to droping the clutch from such a high RPM level? Just wonderin caus im kinda new to the whole manual trasmission scene. Thanks

yeah.. the s2k isnt really a drag car.. but ill be dragging mine in and out of next season to guage the increases in performace with the bolt ons im adding.. numbers on a dyno only help so much..

basically.. when you line up on a drag strip.. with an S that is.. you have to drop the clutch in the beginning.. in the "pit".. drop the clutch at a high rpm but not too high that you will hit redline within a second or two.. you want to lose total traction for about 5 seconds (rather hard to do if you dont drop the clutch, as there is no torque in the lower rpm range).. the main purpose here being to heat up your tires for the drag coming up (warm tires=better traction).. after that you pull up to the line.. here when you launch you want to drop your clutch at a high enough rpm that your engine doesnt bog down.. but not too high that your tires just spin... as for exactly what RPM.. thats for you to figure out...

in my 99 civic Si i launched at around 4k to give you an idea of where that is, it had a 8,000 rpm redline.. but its also FWD and it doesn't have an LSD.. it all depends on the car and what performance modifications it has..

now i have heard that with the s2000's LSD you can drop it at 7k and still get out of the hole pretty quick.. but i think youd be better off lower.. (but not too low )

im no pro or anything.. so feel free to correct me if im wrong..

The main reason for dropping at 7K, is 1) you won't bog and 2) when you shift into second you'll be in VTEC, so you'll constantly be above the 6000 RPM level. Race a V8 and you'll easily take them off the line with a proper launch...now how long until they catch us is another story...

Make sure you have 4 or 5000 in the bank to cover your repair bills down the road!

Had the car a 1.5yrs and I still cannot bring myself to do a high RPM clutch drop. I want to, but when the moment arises I yield to the possible sound of my driveshaft exploding into thousands of little shards and dollars.

If I don't launch and shift at 9000 I always stay about 6400 rpm, and thats not even shifting fast.
