Default Lease deal

Hi,
I was at the dealer yesterday. After a test drive and my adrenaline still pumping through my body 1 hour after the drive, ... the sales person managed to get me into the sales office to talk with the manager. He offered me with about 2000 down i would only pay like around 3 or 4 hundred bucks a month for a 48 month 12k miles lease. I believe the exact # was like $379 per month or something or like $412/month with no down payment or something aroudn there. Is that a good deal?
What were some of the deals you guys got on your leases?

thanks...
i was actually really close to leasing an s2000. What do you guys think i should do? the lease payments are definately really affordable for me. Also... i am still keeping my 4runner. I will probably use my s2000 as my daily driver though and it's probably around a 12 mile drive one way to work. Then i will probably go on some joy rides and trips...
The sales manager tells me that if i go over the mileage... i could buy out the car and i still would have been paying the same amoutn as if i bought it from the start. What do you guys think?

thanks
Aaron

You need to give us more information. What is the money factor and the residual value of the car. What is the exact down payment and all other charges to start the lease?

Just remember you have to give the car back after you have paid for it, for only about 75 more a month after you pay it off, you own it. I realized this after I leased my current Accord, and also if something happens and you need to free yourself from that payment its hard to because you owe more on the car than its worth up until the last year or so.

you need to look at the underlying costs.

money factor
capitalized cost
upfront fees
termination fees

i strongly advise against leasing a car beyond its warranty period. 36 months MAX on an S. you do not want to be repsonsible for repairing a vehicle that is not your. remmeber there are some big $$ items on the S that can go up in smoke, not unlike any other car.

The residual on a 04' is 58%. There are no termination fees w/ ahf if you buy out the lease (not sure about if you turn it in early, never done that...).

I got out of my RSX lease by finding a buyer, getting *most* of the money from him, paying it off - essentially I bought it from Honda - then waited for the Maryland title in the mail - then sold it to the buyer. Then I got the rest of the money from the buyer when I finally signed it over to him.

It was a REAL pain in the ass!

I do NOT recommend a lease if there's even a chance that you will want to end it early. Or at least if you do, consider just paying the early termination fee, instead of trying to sell it yourself like I did.

Leases are cool because you get more car for less money (per month), but not so cool because they're either a hassle or expensive to get out of.

As for the "not owning anything" perspective... I consider even owning a car sort of like a monthly payment. It depreciates, needs repairs, etc. So to me any car is a monthly expense. Since I usually get a new car every year or two anyway, why do I care if I finance it or lease it?

anyway I'm done rambling...

Why exactly would you lease a car rather than buy? I thought leasing was for suckers, no?! What am I missing here?
