Default Lease Question

I've searched the threads already, but I haven't found any postings that really address my question:

I'm not really wanting to get out of my lease, but with the economy like it is, I would love to know what my options are should I get into job trouble.

My question is: what happens if I want to end my American Honda Finance lease early? Wait, I know you are going to say, look at the other threads, but it seems to me that all the other threads are saying to either sell the car to someone else or pay off the remainder of the lease as a penalty. When I leased the car, I thought the guy told me that Honda Finance would let me end the lease at anytime without getting screwed. And according to my lease papers, I will be responsible for 'any payments ALREADY due and unpaid'. So doesn't this mean I would only have to pay the current payments due and not the future ones? In my mind I would not have to pay all the remaining payments, but it sounds too good to be true, now that I think about it. My impression was that I could just end the lease, pay any current payments/penalties and forgo the future payments. I might pay a grand or two in penalties, but I wouldn't be required to pay $10,000 is future lease payments. Is this right?
