Default Are leases assignable? (sellable)?

If i were to sign up for a 4 year lease at $300 per month, i would think someone would buy me out for the last 2 years if i wanted to move on.? Are leases usually assignable or is there always some risk that could come back and haunt me?

thanks

Scot

I've leased two hondas, both of which i have gotten out of the lease early... the answer to your question is no. Basically i leased a 99 civic which after a year and a half i traded in for a 00 GSR.. didn't loose anything.. then after a year with the GSR, I bought a supra.. so i sold the GSR at the buyout price at that time on the car from the lease company.. the only thing that sucks about doing that is that the leasor has to buy the car out from the leasing company and pay sales tax on how much he bought the car out for and then when he sells the car to the new owner that new owner also has to pay sales tax.

Yes you can transfer Leases. I talked to Honda Finance a few months ago about this before I leased my car. I was going to take over a lease from someone on this board. But I found a new one at a good price so I went that route. Basically all the person has to do is qualify for the lease and sign some papers and it's theirs. Money doesn't even have to take place. You cannot transfer a lease over while in the last 6 months of the lease. And you cannot sell a lease car outright. American Honda will only sell it to you, and then you can sell it. But this makes you pay taxes TWICE, which can get costly. So the best way to get rid of a leased car is to transfer it and then the new party can decide if they want to buy it or continue leasing. I'm really suprised that more people do not know about this option.

Someone with some insight please help!!!!

AMERICAN HONDA LEASE....... in 24 months of a 48 month lease can it be transfered? I don't think it can, and the buyout is awefull.... so what do you do? how do you get around it? I am sure that I could transfer a $300 a month lease payment on a 2 year old S2000, but does Honda allow that?

Let me know...only if you are certain of your information though.

thanks

Scot

I checked with a friend of mine who has sold me over a dozen Hondas in the last 10 years. He checked and says it is doable but there is a charge to the original lessee of about $400. And the takeover lessee has to be qualified. The original lessee does not get their downpayment back.
