Default Leaving key in II before pressing start button

Just curious. Does it matter how long you leave the key in the II position before pressing the "Engine Start" button (or equivalently the III position)?

i.e. will it be better for the car or easier to start in winter?

I find that the car starts a little quicker, but am not sure if that's really the case or if it's just by luck. I don't drive the car much in the winter, but don't feel like stress testing the fact by starting the car a hundred times to find out.

IIRC the fuel pump starts to prime / pressurize the fuel system with the key in II.
IMO its best to wait for the fuel pump to stop and then start the engine.
My manual doesn't say anything about it though.
If the car hasn't been started for a while it may help to get fuel where you want it.

I dont think it matters, you can hold the button down and than turn the key and it will stilll start.

It doesn't matter unless you have an aftermarket FPR. Stock you should be fine.

I always wait for the check engine light to go away. I find it easier to start that way.

Depends on what kind. Aeromotives do not hold enough pressure in the lines when the car is off. It will drain back into the tank. When I had my civic, I had to wait until the fuel pump finished priming or it would not start.

When ever I turn the key I usually wait until my Walbro is primed (its very loud).
