Default Less dramatic VTEC with Mobile 1

I just put Mobile 1 in my car at 22k miles. The engine seems much quiter now and when VTECing it seems alot less dramatic. I used to be able to really hear when it hit VTEC but now it just kinda...slips into it. I am not sure if I like it or not. Anyone else notice this? Does the oil get into the shifting area, because it seems like shifting is a bit smoother too.

is the mobil 1 synthetic or conventional? synthetics are known to weaken vtec engagement FEEL, but that doesnt necessarily mean you are losing hp. anyways about the "shifting area", new engine has nothing to do with the shifting process. the transmission has its own fluid(MTF).

I just switched to Mobil 1 syn. as well a week ago and yes your car idles smoother and VTEC engagement is smoother as well. You don't lose HP, but you lose that surge you use to have. I will be dynoing my car this Saturday, not sure what you can conclude b/c my recent dyno was stock 204.9, since then i've got J's exhaust and 4IG CAI.

Yes it was the Synthetic. I am not sure it feels slower, but it just doesnt roar in VTEC like it used to, however normal driving sound is much smoother. I guess its a bit of a trade off.

edit:

Do you think that synthetic has different sound properties, I mean does it muffle sound better than dyno oil or maybe absorb it? Or is it jus that there is that much less friction causing the engine to make less noise. Idle is sooo much more quiet.

You could do a search as this has been covered before.

Synthetic is more slick then conventional. The molecules are smaller, which is what really does it. You will also notice improved fuel mileage as well.

I recently switch to Mobil1 SuperSyn and I do not notice a difference at VTEC. I do notice a difference at idle.

I also use Mobil1 Synthetic.. and VTEC will engage sometimes with 1 bar showing, and always with 2 bars IF I have to get on it when the engine is that cold.. (don't like to do that, but will if it's required)

No problem that you know of. I would highly recommend that you not VTEC until 3 bars. Running an engine too hard before it reaches normal operating temperature can't be a good thing.

running synthetic and vtec does not seem as pronounced, but i can tell that the car is at least as fast as it was before... others are usually still blips in the rear view!
