Default Let's make an online US version of the HyperRev catalog!

I think a resource for this board that everyone here could use is an online catalog of available parts for the s2k. Because not too many shops are making parts specifically for our cars, version 1.0 of the catalog shouldn't be an insurmountable task. I'll be more than happy to do what I can to research what's available (99% web research), and take screen grabs, descriptions from the manufacturer, etc. We can even do 1 better than HyperRev and allow members to post opinions and experiences with the parts.

What does everyone think?

there are a few things i'm concerned about if such a book is made, but the one i'm most concerned about is the accuracy of the data. are we going to take the manufacturer's claim on their parts without any 3rd party testing? if so (highly unlikely given the nature of 99% of my customers and from what i know of this community), do we get the info from every vendor, including those in Japan? if 3rd party verification is needed, who's going to cough up the dough? granted, a lot of the info is readily available - i for one would be happy to present the dyno info we have on hand, and i'm sure there are plenty of comptech SC charts, and (come on Derryck buddy! i'm waiting for ya!) turbo kits, etc.

Do you need all that information? Doesn't he just mean effectively a list of available stuff with pictures, details, prices and where to get them? You don't need to verify the data, leave that to the individuals the same as it is now. I understood this just to be a single central source of finding out what is available. And no, I haven't heard of "HyperRev"...

Maybe I could expand the Wheel Options datbase to include all sorts of categories. It's already got exhusts in there but I never finished it.

The great thing about my set up is anyone can add a record, and then come back later and edit or add to the record.

it'll be cool if there was a product review feature for the owners of that particular part. with ratings...

Because this would be an ONLINE catalog and not printed material, we have a lot more freedom as to how we can do this. We can start with a couple of parts for now, just to test the format. Then as more information is gathered and more parts become available, we can update the catalog.

Now, as an end user and not a supplier of parts, here's the info I'd want....

Parts categorized by type....
-Exterior, Interior, Engine, Suspension, etc.
Pics of each part, possibly next to a picture of the stock part it is replacing.
Details of each part...
-weight, installation time, installation instructions, etc.
List of suppliers that can get the part
-this way we can be unbiased by not having to recommend a particular supplier for a particular part.
MSRP or average cost for each part...
Performance gain for the part...
- of course there is much debate about this. We should at least post what the manufacturer says it does. But that is why I also want...
Opinions, Reviews, Comments
Here we can post our own reviews based on experiences.

I'm probably missing some stuff, but that's basically what I had in mind.
