No offense intended but how is an overdue registration on your vehicle not your fault?
No offense intended but how is an overdue registration on your vehicle not your fault?

It's a long story... my Mom wanted to buy a condo in Walnut Creek, CA. The bank she was dealing with made a gross oversight and told her that they wouldn't be able to give her as big of a loan as she needed - and she was about $10k short. So I helped her out by taking out a loan against my del Sol. It was interesting - they loaned me much more than what the car was worth.
Anyway, my registration was almost due at that time, and the credit union told me that they would pay the registration fee for me by just adding it in to the cost of the loan. I figured that was alright, but then found myself at the end of the month wondering where my registration sticker was.
I figured that there had been a mistake and that I should just go in and pay the fee, before I got a ticket. I went to DMV and stood in line for an hour or so... and when they finally got to me, the guy behind the counter wouldn't accept my money. He said that the lien holder (the credit union) was supposed to pay the fee and he couldn't take my check. I was very confused, but he gave me one of those nifty red squares to give me a month's extension on getting my sticker.
I went back to the credit union, told them what the DMV had told me, and they confirmed that they were supposed to pay the registration fee, since they already took the money from me. Nearing the end of the month, I still didn't have my sticker, so I went to the credit union and they said that there was some mix up and that they had just paid the registration fee earlier THAT DAY. I went to the DMV to explain what happened and to see if I could get another nifty red square, but the guy behind the counter told me I wouldn't need one and that I should get my sticker within a week, if the credit union had paid for it like they said they did.
The next day I got pulled over for having overdue registration. I explained the whole thing to the cop and he still gave me a fix it ticket, but he said that it would only cost me $10 after I got the sticker on and showed it to someone to write it off. Well, I got my sticker later on that week, put it on... and found a policeman to sign off on my fix it ticket. Then I got a bill in the mail from the police department saying my ticket was $250.
But there is a happy ending - my Mom went through a different bank to get the loan she was promised at the original bank, and she gave me enough money to pay off the loan I took out on my car plus the $250 I was charged for having overdue registration.
