If you live in Nebraska, and you're using the car for a daily driver, even when it's snowy/icy... I'd say get the 911 C4. You should be able to pick up an 996 C4 for ~50K in a year or so (maybe less, I haven't checked prices, since I can't afford one!). You get fun performance, daily drivability, and AWD traction.
If you aren't going to drive it in inclement weather, I'd go with the C2 because it's slightly lighter, and you don't have the parasitic losses of an AWD configuration. Actually, at your price target, you could probably get into a used GT3... but it might be a bit harsh for daily driver duties.

I've been leaning towards a C4. As a matter of fact, Lexus of Omaha has a C4S for sale right now. I haven't looked at it yet, but I saw it when I drove by last night. I'm not sure what they're asking for it.
That's a bona-fide supercar, with over 400hp, AWD and enough creature comforts that you could use it as a daily driver no problemo.

You can get used 996 Turbos with warranties in the 70's. Don't judge what they are worth by what folks are asking -- they are selling in the 70's now.
The C4S is a waste of your time; 60 percent of the car for 80 percent of the price.

Or stretch your budget and grab a base 997 S (if you can wait a while in order to find one). Car and Driver has it posting incredible numbers, basically matching the C6. Not sure if their test car was a ringer, or if it's just underrated at the crank.
Then again, nothing short of a Ferrari beats the looks of a 993TT.

I see a lot of suggestions for the new M3 but I would prefer and S54 M coupe. I parked next to one today and they have to be one of the most gorgeous / unique cars on the road. Not to mention probably the stiffest frames you could get.
EVO MR.. around the price of the S2000, but will be more tuned, lighter and basically even more killer than the previous EVO. You will have to kiss build quality goodbye though, with this option, but if fun is what you are looking for in a new car within a reasonable price range, I would look no further.
Personally, I'm keeping my S for a while, but I also like to switch cars from time to time. If I didn't get my S to begin with, I would have bought the MR when it comes out, but now I am waiting on the next gen STI/EVO/GTR to hit the US in MY 07.

But I don't think is street friendly
