Just felt the need to share my thoughts with everyone.

Just about two weeks ago I had an urge to stop at McDonald's to grab a bite to eat. The burger was ok but that was to be expected. As I walk out I notice the sun has decided to peek its head out and its turning out to be a nice day. Instantly I have the urge to go top down. Unfortunately I never got that far. As I proceeded to back out my space the older lady in the Merc who had been waiting for me to back up decided that she was now just going to try and speed around me. As you would expect that didn't work out so well and my rear bumper slammed into her passenger side door. Instant worse day ever. I got my car as a second owner with super low mileage and was pleased that it had a clean history. Not now. The entire rear bumper was snapped and both tail lamps were shattered. Needless to say I limped the car home to promptly car my insurance agent and report the accident. The next morning I took the S into my local body shop that I have used before and was able to secure a loaner car from them. A 2000 Ford Focus... EWE. At least it didnt cost me anything but wow I have never been in such a cheap car. I truly appreciate the s2k more now then ever before. Its like having been eating prime rib your whole life and then getting served spam, it doesn't cut it. I miss my car and cant wait to get it back but if you can learn anything from me make it two things. First appreciate your car cause when you dont have it you will miss it. And second watch out for old ladies in a Mercedes.

 

A bummer to be sure Bum. Sounds like you're taking it pretty well. If it was me I'd be climbing the walls.

Here in New Joisey one must look out for old ladies in any car!

It snows here so I have to drive a winter car for half the year. I always end up missing the S.


I hate it when people are always dodging behind people in the parking lot. They if you are in the S they know that you can't see over the other cars and they can see that the rear window is tiny as shit. That and when at stop lights when people get right on your ass. On exit ramps or any incline you almost have to launch the car not to roll back into them. IMO if you cant drive a MT car you shouldn't drive because you make everyones life with a MT a living hell.

You have 2 options to stop from rolling back, even on bigger inclines.

1. Ride on the clutch just before you have to move, just at that friction point where it wont stall.
2. Hold the hand brake up while holding the button. Start letting your left foot off the clutch as you would normally, and let go of your hand brake as you start moving.

Or you can do what I tend to do, roll back about 1 foot before the car behind me stops, so they know I am a manual transmission car. Some will put 10 feet space when I do this

edit: And you know this is the perfect opportunity to do some body mods.

 

I do that as well depending on the incline. I had a instance a few years back with my integra in a parking lot. I had SUVs on my left and right and couldn't see at all. So I slowly backed out and some guy drove right behind me, hit him in the passenger door. That was the last time I've parked even remotely close, always at the back now.

 

Because it's mandatory for me to park my work vehicle backed into a parking space whenever possible,

I do the the same when driving the S just to avoid any parking lot mishaps like the OP. Way too low

visibility for us and the other crazy drivers.

sorry to hear op. in jersey you gotta worry about everyone. we have the highest insurance rates in the country for a reason.
