Like a virgin (Another rear window post)
A few weeks ago some random miscreant cut a hole in my roof in a vain attempt to destroy/steal something that wasn't theirs. My new top is being installed on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. How can I keep my new plastic rear window from showing the rigors of use? I used plexus on the old one but am unhappy with the smear marks and subtle "yellowing" effect it causes. I do not have the discipline to get out and fart around with "Muz tube" type devices.
I am thinking about tinting the rear window with static cling-type material. Are there any long-term effects to worry about? If not, does it come in a clear version? I'm afraid that if I tint the rear window, I will then feel compelled to tint the side windows and get the black chrome badges and some anthracite wheels to complete the look. It is too easy to blow too much dough on this car.

Definitely do the "Static Cling" tint. I have been using it on my car for over one month and my top goes up and down all day without any hesitations of scratching my window. Makes life owning a convertible much easier..02

I don't understand your problem. Plexus should prevent any of the problems you mentioned. Also, there is no Muz tube, it's a Muz mat that goes in the top well to protect the inside of the window. As far as your tinting question is concerned, i haven't a clue. For a while, I advocated using a towel to protect the outside of the window when lowering the top; however, I no longer use it and haven't had any permanent creases/scratches as a result.
I have only noticed positive side effects from the tint. I did mine way back in November of last year, and there were 2 additional benefits I wasn't expecting. Besides making the car look much better (IMO), the tint prevented the back window from being scratched on the outside, and greatly reduced the distortion crease from the top being folded.
Although I have no proof yet, I would also believe that tinting the window will keep it from looking like my brother's Miata rear window, or at least slow down the process. I did take the tint off one time when taking pictures for theseStatic Tint pictures, and the rear window looked as clear as it did back in November
I was able to find 2 colors of tint, but the only "clear" stuff I could locate was designed for a shower door and was "glazed".
(just a hint of distortion at the C pillar of the Civic)
