Default Lip Gasket

Hey guys, is the rubber gasket absoluetly necessary when installing a lip? What is it's purpose...just to protect the paint from any shifting...?

It also makes a tighter seal. If it wasn't there, I imagine there would be a small space between the lip and bumper in some areas.

That's what it seemed like when I installed mine.

Tighter gap...perhaps prevents rubbing against the bumper.
Mine was taken off when I got the lip repainted...there is an apparent gap when removed.

Do not remove it! I did this on my old Integra body kit and kicked myself every since.
