Hopefully this doesn't sound too out there. I ordered my 01 W/R about a week ago & am in the process of collecting/making things for it. I'm going to make my own rear window tube & roof well mat. How wide is the rear window? How large is the area that a roof well mat must cover? The dealer had a sold unit behind the fence but would not even open the door let alone put the top down. I understood as if it were mine I wouldn't want anyone touching it uneccasarily. Thanks!

 

I would highly recommend the Muz mat for your roof well; it's not all that expensive and you can probably get in on a group buy. For the outside window a simple terrycloth towel beats the Miata tube in my opinion. The tube must be held in place while the top is lowered. The towel only requires tucking at the top and either side where the top overlaps the rear window. The towel is now held in place when you lower the top and you can raise it again for temporay security when shopping or dining. After 18 months and almost as many miles, my rear window is free of scratches and creases.
