Little predicament
I know most of your responses will favor one side, but I would still like to get your responses.
My cousin is moving out of the country (actually tomorrow) and he's had a brand new RX-8 for two years. He didn't have the opportunity to drive it much so it only has 10k miles on it. I actually drove it around for a couple months right before I picked up my s2k. I liked the ride and it was a fun car to drive, but compared to the S, you feel so disconnected from everything.
The other issues that drew me back from the 8 were the gas mileage and the potential flooding issues. I didn't like the fact that one minor slip up (shutting off a cold car) could result in being towed to the dealer.
Well, here's the proposition, he's trying to sell it and he's on a tight time frame. He tried Carmax and they only offerred him $13k. Keep in mind he bought the car for about $35k fully loaded when it first came out. Rather than waste this car (perfect mechanical condition) and sell it to a dealer, my Aunt called me to see if I'd like to buy it for $13k.
Here are some important details to consider:
1. He has a nasty front bumper on it (i hate the kit he put on it)
2. Cheezy CF hood
3. The front bumper is cracked on the passenger side (parking lot accident)
4. 10k miles, perfect mechanical condition, other than the above, could pass for brand new.
So the predicament is, do I sell my MY00 GPW S2k w/ 35,000 miles to hop into an 8? I want to help out my Aunt and cousin, and I don't hate the 8, but I'm in love with my s2k and I don't want to deal with fixing up the 8 on my own dime.
I know this should be an easy answer, but thought I'd hear everyone's 2 cents.

if you're happy with your s2k why even bother? you're not helping them they are trying to help you.. carmax or whatever will give them 13k for the car, same as you would.. the only way I'd say do this is if you can sell your S fast for around 18 or so and buy the rx8 for 13 + save money...
Well you could just buy the 8 and not fix it. Does he still have the stock parts? I think they look fine w/o body kits.
If you can't I'd say keep the S also. I've yet to drive the RX8 but I would think that the S would be a lot more involving to drive. Involvement = Fun. =D

Good point react....I'm not "helping" them out per se, but they would hate to see the car wasted going back to a dealer. They would rather have someone close to them enjoy it and put it to good use.
Is the car fair valued despite the issues I've mentioned?

If you can, help your aunt and cousin by buying the 8 and selling it at a reasonable price for him (then split the profit). But keep the S if that is the car you love. Its great that you want to help but life is too short and precarious to switch from a car you love to one that you don't just to help out someone who did not plan well.
Keep the s2k- unless you cant afford it and you're better off getting the rx8. You're really not doing your aunt any favors or helping them any. I might be wrong- just basing it off your post. Its not like they are making more off the car by selling it to you.
