Thumbs up A little whine and a shake...

Hi all. I got my S about a week and a half ago. It has 38K on the odo and drives beautifully. The engine purrs and all, but during accelleration, close to 3,000rpm there's a short whine that is noticeable for about 400 rpms long. It starts somewhere around 2,700rpm and lasts for a short bit. It is most noticeable in 1st and 2nd gear. I actually haven't noticed it in the other gears. Does anyone know what this could be caused by? There is no change in performance when the whine occurs and I am thinking it has to do with the transmission, rather than the engine. It could just be that something loose is vibrating at that specific frequency of about 2,700rpm. I'm not sure.

The other issue is that the car often stutters and almost stalls when I have the clutch pushed all the way in. It happens when I am coming to a stop or starting in 1st gear or beginning to reverse. I haven't thought much of it because I test drove a different S and it did the same thing. Is this normal? If I come to a stop and don't push the clutch all the way in the car won't stutter at all.

Thanks in advance.

If the whine is from the front it could be your air intake and it's normal
If the whine is from the rear it could be your diff and that's not good

Studdering could be because you need to do a Map Whack
Studdering could be because you need to do a throttle cable adjustment

What is a map whack? Sounds like smacking the map. I'll look into the suggestion you mentioned about the throttle adjustment. The whining is coming from the front.

for the MAP whack, you basically unplug the map and smack it. and the sound coming from the front i'd describe as more of a chirp. if this is the sound you're talking about, it's normal and i've heard it on A LOT of S2000s. also, if the MAP whack doesn't work (didn't work for me) you could disconnect your negative battery terminal for about 10 minutes, then reconnect it and turn on the engine. let it run at idle for 15 minutes or so to reset the ECU. that worked for me.

nightcrawler, I suppose it can be described as a chirp as well. I'll do the map whack tonight and see what happens. If that doesn't work, I'll try the battery suggestion you're talking about. Thanks for the info everyone. I'll post an update.

If you still have the OEM radio and you are going to disconnect the battery, be sure you know where to find the radio code or you will not be able to listen to it again until you find the code.
