so if u we add in a washer the HID's will appear more purple?
Yes, but this depends on the projector. This works really well with the S projecotrs.

You'd actually gain light output, since less would be blocked by the shield.
You are correct, my mistake. I was thinking rightside up instead of upside down.

Some people like the effect of lighting our car produces. Our projectors produce one of the sharpest, if not THE sharpest cut-off on the road. Also it creates a very colorful cut-off band of blue and purple and seeing how easy it is to modify the projector it self, they add a washer or two to enhance the color on the cut-off as you can see.

Another reason is "flicker". With our stiffer suspension, compared to other HID equipped vehicles, the cut-off tends to "bounce" due to the rigid ride and it seems as if it's flashing the colored cut-off.

This is flicker, just try to imagine it on the car and speed it up:

This guy is extreme, he's gone beyond just retrofitting:

Retrofitting HID projectors into headlamps that didn't come with projectors is a big thing anymore. I have Audi S4 Projectors and Hella Gen 3 ballasts and philips 4100K D2S bulbs in my 2001 Prelude:

Shields on the Valeo (Audi) projectors are slightly modified. they put out more purple/blue color band than the S2000 does stock.
