Looking at a '00 Please Help!
I was hoping for a list of potential problems to look for when purchasing a 2000 s2k. Financially a 2000 seems like my best option. Aside from the 1 to 2 grind can anyone give me a comprehensive list of what to look for when inspecting/buying an 00 s2k?
Hey, I know when we were looking at getting a 2K1-2K2, we did some investigating on what the issues were. Mostly we found the 2nd gear syncros and also the #4 cyl blowing. I do believe most of the issues were fixed by the time 2k2 came out, but the oil consumption still was there.
As you already know about the tranny, the #4 cyl was an issue of oil starvation. Most of the times it would go about 1k-4k miles on the motor, so if you buy a used S, I'm sure it will be way past this point (unless you get extremely lucky). Oil consumption was a good one too where it would go through alot of oil and fast. Just be sure to check it frequently until you get used to it.
Another difference is the plastic rear window. Alot of people dont care for it since it discolors and fades. Plus, you cant tint it.
Other then that, I hope if I missed something, some one else can fill you in. BTW, here is a great link to check out for more info: S2K FAQ Hope that helps, and good luck

I bought my 00 a year ago. It had 29,000 miles on it and was about out of warranty. I took it in for some TSBs and never had it fixed since. The only problems were dealer induced with typical sloppy workmanship at the dealer.
I do a lot of car projects and was able to fix all the issues that the dealer screwed up before they became a problem.
My car is a occasional driver to and from work plus I have auto crossed it a few times. To date it has never used oil or had a shift problem. It has been just like all of the other Hondas that I have owned but more fun.
Good luck!
