hey all i have wanted a s2000 for quite a while

i have a toyota mr2 spyder now but since i have had the engine rebuilt so i am trading it in
i have found my perfect s2000

the dealer is offering me 12000 on trade in

they want 28900 for the car

I would definitely work that price down. I believe that's close to kelly blue book retail which you should not buy at. I would have gotten that color if I hadn't gotten a deal for mine. Did you check what the trade value is on your mr2? most dealers low ball on trades too.

You're talking about a used 04 when the 06's are out soon - for 28,900 you might as well get new. I'd push for at least 27,500 and the CPO 7yr warranty before that car became attractive to me, but as long as you're happy with the price, get it - the S is much better than the MR2. I'd just offer them a said amount and not budge, its not like there aren't other S's out there. It sounds like you're getting robbed on the trade in too.

I'd sell the MR2 privately and make more money on it than trading it in. Also I would get the price down another thousand or two on the 04.

$26,000 for a '04 with close to 5k miles seems more reasonable.

Yea, I have heard of new S2000's going for $29,000 +++. They probably only have $24,000 in the car, plus they are going to make money off the trade. Tell them $26,000 or go to hell.

I bought my 04 new for 28700, so if that gives you an idea of cost, I agree with the 26k amount. they may try and strong arm you, but don't cave in, they NEED to get rid of it.
