Hey guys, I am looking for a 2002 in either of the silvers or berlina black. I am located in California and was wondering what you think i should be paying for such a car? A lot of dealerships and private individuals are asking 27k, I think this is ridiculous. Any input?

that is the fair market value for a 2002 with around 10-15K miles in california. put it this way, if you were an owner of an 2002 s2000, that would be the price that you would be willing to sell your car for. if you find a 2002 listed for less, chances are the owner is desperate to sell it, the car has high mileage and/or in moderate to poor condition, and/or the car has been in an accident. bottom line is that if you are not willing to pay that price for a used s2000, then try looking for a 2001 or 2000.

lahight,

I got a MY02 and love it.

Too bad you're in CA (well, actually too bad I'm not) b/c one of buddies/local is selling his clean MY02 for $27K, and another member is selling his MY2000 for $17.5K. I'm trying to buy MY2000 for my brother, so I'm hoping I get the first shot at it before anyone else (will test drive soon), but if it doesn't go through, you may want to look at it (esp. for that price).

Here are the links for the two cars. First my buddy's (he also owns/owned a Porsche, so he keeps his car(s) clean). You probably want to PM him, he doesn't recheck his own thread that much, and only rely on PMs.

Second, affordable MY00

Hope this helps. Personally if I didn't have my S, I would prefer the MY02, but who wouldn't get an earlier MY00 for $10K less. If the price is this much different, obviously the cheaper the better. I'll just get an extended warranty and make sure all the kinks are worked out w/ MY00-01, ie tranny, etc.

Good lunk,

LT

Ridiculous???
My goodness, what do you expect to pay for a 1 year old car like the S2k that had an MSRP of about $32.5k.

You won't find a year old S2k with about 10k on it for less than $27k. Just not going to happen. Get your thinking Up Up Up.

If you want the car you must pay what it's worth.

Two weeks ago, I paid $25K ($27K OTD: tax, tag, fees, etc) for a '02 with 5900 miles on it from a Honda dealer in TN.

when you live in the land of sun you pay for the ragtops...when you live in the land of rain, snow, sleet you pay less because you get to drive less.
