Default Looking for advice

This is going to sound dumb and I probably just need to make a few personal adjustments, but when I'm wanting to push the car to the near limits I shift faster/harder like most people I would assume.

My problem is, when I shift hard I tend to jerk my driving hand to the left at the same time. It's like a sympathetic movement to my right hand. My hand will only move about .5-1 inch. It doesn't make me feel like the back end will break out, but I kow it's not normal for someone to do that. Plus it freaks my gf out. So I guess I just need to consciously loosen my grip on the wheel and not jerk my hand.

I'm looking to see if anyone else does or did this, thanks!

Jesus, if you are shifting so hard your left hand jerks, you're doing it wrong. Quick shifting≠jerking your shifter around - if you can't be smooth you can't be fast imo. Is this for drag racing or course racing?

On Ramp Fun

I use to have a problem where when I wanted to shift faster, Im not as accurate with my shift hand and couldn't get it in gear smooth enough to be fast and effective. What I did to fix it, and could help you also, is just be calm and loose while you shift. Most likely get rid of any jerking and be more accurate and smoother in shifting also. You don't have to hold the wheel tight or use any more strength to shift than you normally do be fast and effective at shifting IMO.

Shifting quickly and smoothly takes relaxed finesse not brute strength. If you get all uptight and tense when you're driving hard you can't drive smoothly. Some people get so uptight that they hold their breath which makes them more tense. Just relax, breathe deeply.

Left then back. Not at an angle. if you're yanking it into gear start saving for a tranny.

Clutch delay valve was made especially for you.

You can shift fast and smooth. Watch some best motoring vids.

You want control, not brute strength.

That concept of "fast" that you see in video games and movies? In reality, "fast" is completely the opposite. If feels slow and smooth.

Yeah, just on ramp fun and stuff like that not racing. I think I just need to relax like reqpaq said. I'm still new to the car so when I let the rpms fly even a little I guess I get a little nervous.

Jerky shift + accelerating + onramp turn = spun S - turns are the worst time to upset a car's balance, especially the S2000.
