Default Looking to buy

Im not sure if this is the right place for this topic but anyways...

I'm looking to buy an s2k here in socal, I don't mind if it has a mileage up to anywhere around 120ish. Looking to pay something around 9000 is that an unreasonable price? I have done a bit of looking around and cant really come to a decision on whats good deal, all input will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I bought my '00 s2k last October for about 8000-8500. It had 130k miles and also needed some work (new top, large dent in the door, missing s2000 badge, etc), but it ran perfectly and the paint and interior was very good. I also had to look for about 3 months to find one in that price range. I'm sure you could find one for around 9k, but it may need some work and it's almost guaranteed to have over 100k miles. I would suggest spending a little more because you will probably get what you pay for. I didn't mind the doing the work to get mine in good condition, but if you want to buy one in good condition you will probably have to spend more like 10-15k. But you won't be dissapointed, it's a great car!

I'm not really too worried about the mileage as long as the car has been well taken care of, how much did you end up putting into before it was good condition again and looking back would you rather have just bought one in better condition(money as well as time wise)?

The motors will regularly see 220K+ but things like clutch start going between 120-150K. I personally would by an 03+ with less miles. Unless $9K is all you have to spend.

I personally wouldn't by a car north of 100K unless I was planning on rebuilding it for the track. 100K is a lot of miles by any standard Honda or not.

The top was about $600-700 for the glass upgrade but I replaced it myself which took 11 hours. I also saved almost $1000 because the cheapest shop was $1500 and that was with the plastic window. The dent cost $500 and the badge only cost like 30 bucks. I still have several door dings to get taken care of which will cost $100-200. So all in all it has cost me around $1250 to get it back into very good condition. However, a week after I bought it someone hit it while it was parked and the insurance totaled it and handed me a $6500 check (I bought it back). I got the damage repaired for ~$5000 so really I got everything fixed for nothing out of pocket.

I would probably make the purchase again instead of buying a better one just because I enjoy working on cars, but that's just me.

I disagree with this, as I have had some american non V-8 cars that flat quit or break at 100k or there abouts, and in those cases 100k is a lot of miles.
Bought my 92 civic hatch with a 114k on it. Other than change the oil and the coil, I've done nothing else to the car. Its well over 200k now with no end in sight.
Honda is not a car company, it's an engine company that makes cars.
