I included Phoenix, Denver, WA, OR, NV, CA. I am hesitant for cars from Texas. People used to be able to wash titles there, not sure if it's still that easy. With their recent floods, I am going to guess there might be more S2ks for sale from there.

I got my 07 gpw for 20k last year with 31k miles so I dont think the OP's two examples are that far out of line depending on the condition they're in.

At the end of the day it is really a sellers market on the low mileage, minty 06+ models. There seems to be no shortage of buyers for the few such cars that available, aside from those ridiculously priced.

I just purchased an 08 GPW with 10K miles on the clock for $25,000 last week. This is in Hawaii, where all things are more expensive than any other place.
That used to be true. Visited my bro in Lani Kai a few months ago and Hawaii is just about cheaper on everything compared to Los Angeles. I never thought I would see that day.

How was the selection of S2k's on the island
there's actually a good amount for sale but most are modded. It took me a while to find a clean, low mileage, all stock car. Funny thing is couple days after I bought mine, an 07 NFR with 2K miles appeared for sale. It sold within a day for $25,500. I have no regrets with the GPW though, I love the interior.

They aren't as common as Minis (those things are all over the place here!) or Miatas, but I do see at least one every day in my travels and it isn't my own. On days that I go to multiple client sites, I can see half a dozen. With that many of them here, chances are there will be more available for sale. You might consider expanding your search to include further south.
We're out there, and I'd say based on our state's population there are quite a few of us. It's really hard to say what the S2000 population is, but I'd estimate 500 easy between Tacoma-Everett, perhaps more. I imagine in southern CA it is into the thousands, but it is also over a bigger and heavier populated area so that is to be expected.

As far as clean and cared for, moderately low mileage AP2's go for sale, it is definitely a seller's market in that when there is a good-reasonably priced one for sale it will usually not last.

You get what you pay for.

Though higher mileage can still be worth buying. If you saw mine at 130k you would have thought 30k.
